The quick answer is yes. You can miss a period for a number of reasons like stress or physical exertion. Missing one period may not be a reason to call the doctor but if you have had regular periods in the past and have missed a few with a negative pregnancy test, it's time to give your OBGYN a call.

It a common problem but it is not normal. If you are not pregnant there could be number of things that could cause your period to be gone. It could happen from stress, moving, job changes or any major change in your life.

If you had sex without protection, then I understand that you might think that you are pregnant. If you took a home pregnancy test and the results were negative, just wait 28 more days. If by then you have not gotten your period, I would recommend to visit your doctor.
