Is it common for dogs to become more aggressive after getting neutered?

That's not common. Normally you neuter dogs to help them become less aggressive. Perhaps this is temporary. Your dog may be cranky because it is adjusting to the new levels of hormones caused by the surgery. Watch your dog to see if he settles down over a few days. If he doesn't, take him back to the vet.

No, after a dog gets neutered it is generally more calm because you are removing some testosterone from there system.

Absolutly not, on the opposite after such a treatment your dog should get calmer. If this happends, you should call your vet and, whom is the right person to guide you in the way to correct your dog behavior.

Like humans, "normal" is different for every dog, typically dogs do not become more aggressive post-surgery. Many owners experience the opposite and note a more relaxed demeanor. If your dog is becoming extremely violent or you are worried for your/your family's safety contact your vet.
