Is it better to sit in front of the bulkhead on an airplane?

I am planning a long flight, and its nice that there is no one in front of you to recline, but then you also have one less place to put your bag. Is there as much (or more) legroom in front of the bulkhead?

The answer depends upon the configuration of the aircraft (how the seats are installed) and whether any items are attached to the bulkhead, like magazine racks. On average there will be more legroom available in a bulkhead seat and easier entry and exit than is the case with a 'normal' seat.

I believe you mean BEHIND the bulkhead. You gain leg room. But, if you are not very tall, the disadvantages may outweigh the advantages. Example, you lose easy access to your carry-on stuff. The back seats statistic mentioned is incorrect. It's also the loudest place to sit.

It depends on the the airline you are flying with. Some airplanes will give you more room in the front of the bulkhead, some will not. Some you can recline the seats, some you can't. There are pros and cons I suggest doing some research first if possible so you can choose the right seat.

There is typically more leg room in front of the bulkhead on most airplanes. Flight attendants are often helpful in getting your bag placed into an overhead bin even if you are getting on the plane late and they are mostly full. Keep in mind that statistically the safest place to fly is in the back of the plane.

On some airplanes, there is more legroom in front of the bulkhead. On most airplanes, however, there is less legroom in front of the bulkhead.

There is definately more legroom in the very front of the plane, however if you are concerned about not having room for your bags I suggest getting exit row seating as you get a little more room in exchange for your help in the unlikely event of a crash.

The amount of leg room varies with the type of plane. One problem with sitting in front of the bulkhead is that you can't recline the seat!
