Is canned crab meat okay to use?

I have several good recipes that call for crab meat.

I've had good results using canned crab meat for crab cakes and cream-cheese based dip. As you remove the meat from the can, gently separate the pieces and pick out any tough cartilage. You may need to drain the crab meat in a sieve before using it in your recipe.

As long as the crab meat is offered from a reputable manufacturer, the can shows no damage or tampering, and the item is within its stated expiration date, canned crab meat should be perfectly acceptable for use in cooking.

Absolutely, I have used it many times. Just make sure that you pick through it very carefully for any shells, and take them out.
