Is back leg pain a side effect of a spinal blood patch?

Nerve damage is not common with a blood patch procedure. It is not impossible, but unlikely. It is possible that you pulled or strained something during the procedure, owing to the positioning that is required. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever like Advil or Tylenol and go easy for a few days. If the pain persists, phone your physician.

Many people get spinal blood patch done and some may experience pain in their leg or numbness in their leg. Some also experience severe pain in their neck, burning sensation in their leg or they are not able to feel back of their leg. Your back leg pain may be symptoms of side effects of spinal blood patch.

The most common side effect of blood patch is no relief in the headache. Other possible side effects are bleeding, infection, rupture of spinal "sac" and nerve damage.

Virtually any pain can be a side effect of anything centering in or around the spine. There are numerous nerves leaving the cord at every level and each has the potential of producing leg pain.
