In Texas when is capital punishment carried out?

It seems like people are on Death Row a really long time.

The time it takes to carry out an execution is normally a lengthy process. Special attention is always paid to granting appeals, and this can take years to conclude. Because this process is defined by the individual decisions in every single case, and the individual defendant's decision about what to pursue, it is almost impossible to predict generally.

It takes so long because of the appeals process involved in each case. Each inmate is entitled to so many appeals before they run out of them and are put to death. Most people say they should kill them right away but actually many people have been cleared of crimes while sitting on death row due to advances in DNA.
