Buy a pregnancy test from any grocery store. These are generally only a few dollars, and can test for a hormone in your urine to determine if you are pregnant. If you are pregnant, contact a doctor for further advice. If you continue to be late and are not pregnant, you may still wish to seek medical advice.

If you are a week late for your period the first thing that you need to do is to take a pregnancy test to rule out a pregnancy. If that is negative, they typically say to wait another week and then to test again. You can also call your doctor to see what they say.

I would recommend getting a home pregnancy test. If it's negative, don't worry. There are a lot of reasons your period could be late. Wait a few days and then test yourself again. If it's negative again and you're still worried about being pregnant, have your doctor run a test.

You need not worry until and unless you had had sex without precautions. However, it is advised to wait for another week and then go for the urine test.
