"Average" or "mean" is found by dividing the sum of your data by the number of pieces of data. So, in this example, it would be (x+y+z)/3.

To calculate the average daily mileage, you add each days mileage together and then divide by the number of days. So in this particular example, you add x plus y plus z and divide by three days. Or (x+y+z)/3. Your answer will have the units of miles per day, or miles/day.
