Years ago when we bought our Beagle puppy we crate trained her. This was somewhat effective but she still had accidents. Then we bought a Johnson Doggie Door which also helped a lot. Now years later there is a new product you can try called Potty Patch, seen on TV.

To house train a puppy take them outside often and praise, praise, praise them every time they go to the bathroom. Dogs want to please, praise encourages them to do what you want them to do.

Get a kennel so when your not home he will not want to pee. Then Put a puppy pad down near a door and take them outside when they start to pee When they're done, reward them. The second week take them out when they go to the door.

First lay out newspaper or puppy pads in a designated area. Show it to the puppy and say potty. Next time the dog messes outside the designated area, move it to the newspaper or puppy pad and show the puppy so he will recognize the area for the next time.
