You need about 10 to 12 pounds of meat, 10 pounds of pasta or rice. Probably 10 to 15 pounds of vegetables. About 7 dozen rolls, I like a variety of desserts so go hog wild 3 cakes a couple of pies, 2 gallons ice cream, 4 dozen cookies.

When I worked in a deli we always would make enough for everyone to have two servings. You would have to keep in mind some get more and others don't.

If you are serving pasta one 16oz box can serve between 4-6 people. A pound of chicken can also serve up to 6 people. For appetizers try and portion 4 to five pieces a person. For dessert ice cream can be two scoops per person.

Are you feeding them dinner or just snacks? Are any going to eat beforehand? When in doubt, it's always better to have extra food on hand, you can always save it for later.

It is hard to say because it depends on eating habits, but generally allow for a serving of meat or entree per guest and two servings of sides, plus a bread.

Food you need for 40 guests would depend upon the timing of the party because in day parties the intake of food is less as compared to night parties. Secondly, if the food is to be served while standing, one is able to have less intake than when sitting easily. But always have a tem percent more food than requirements.

If you have 40 guests for a party, the amount of food you have depends on if you are doing a snack food type party or a sit down party.
