Becoming an optometrist typically takes 8 to 9 years. After high school, future optometrists get a bachelor's degree. Next comes the highly competitive process for admission to optometry school. Optometry school lasts for 4 years, and then you have to pass a state exam. An additional year of study is required if you want to be a specialist.

Well it is going to take you 8 years in total to become an optometrist. First you need to get a degree in science from any accredited university. Then you have to take the OCAT examination and pass it. Then you will have to go to an optometry school and pass.
