Question by  VanillaTwilight (281)

How many years does a Mac Pro (desktop) last without starting to slow down noticeably?

I'm thinking of switching from PC to Mac if it proves worth it price-wise.

Depends on the workload thrown at it. However if the workload is simply office/web/email tasks then the machine will be fine for at least 4-5 years.

Who\'d buy a Mac Pro for just office/web/email!? They crazy! :-P I\'ve been doing heavy video editing on a $1700 Dell laptop for 4 years, so if I can\'t get 4-5 years out of a Mac Pro--especially for the price I\'d be paying, it doesn\'t seem worth it. :/  add a comment

will run tip-top for as long as five years (unless it is slowed down by software/registry errors, viruses or spyware)

This all depends on how you work with your new computer. It should stay nice and speedy for many years. Just be sure to re-install OSX every so often.

From my experience, the Mac Pro is a very powerful machine. I have had one for the past three years and it continues to work well.
