A limerick is made up of five lines. The unique feature of limericks is that the first, second, and last lines rhyme with each other while the third and fourth lines are shorter and rhyme with each other. This is the format XXYYX where X represents the 1st, 2nd, and 5th lines and Y represents the 3rd and 4th.

I think it is traditionally 4; line 1 - 8 syllables, line 2 - 8 syllables, line 3 - 10 syllables, line 4 - 8 syllables.

Limerick is a humorous five line poem. The word derives from the Irish town of limerick. They often contain hyperbole, idioms, puns and other figurative devices. Limerick poems can often be of a funny or even a bawdy, or dirty, subject.

Limericks usually have five lines. The first, second, and fifth lines must rhyme, and the third and fourth lines must rhyme.

A limerick has five lines, with three metrical feet in the first, second and fifth lines and two metrical feet in the third and fourth lines. The first line of a limerick traditionally introduces a person and a place appearing at the end of the first line and therefore establishing the ryhme scheme for the second and fifth lines.
