Usally until the person gets married, or a court can decide. And it also depends on how long the people were married before the divorce. It can vary, it's not just one same thing for everyone.

How long alimony will be provided is usually set in the divorce degree. It is usually 5-10 years OR until remarriage. In some states, it will continue as long a child support payments are received or the former spouse reaches retirement age. Refer to the divorce decree to see how long alimony is owed.

Alimony payments are determined by the judge in the court and can vary from case to case and state to state.
