It depends on your dose but the average half life of Celexa is about 37 hours. That definitely would explain why you are drowsy. That's a pretty long half life. Usually if a medicine has a long half life that points toward more risks than those with a shorter half life. I would suggest switching medicine.

Drowsiness is a known side effect of Celexa (citalopram). Its half-life is approximately 37 hours. Taking any other drugs or alcohol within that period- or even within the same week) may contribute to the drowsiness.

The half-life is approximately 35hrs. This can be variable. Certain chronic conditions, such as renal failure, can affect the way the metabolizes medications and cause them to absorb at a different rate. Celexa should never be stopped abruptly. This is a relatively short half-life when compared to other SSRI's.

Celexa can take six to eight days to get fully out of your system. The actual half-life of Celexa is 35 hours.
