Once a will is filed for probate executor is required to run in the local newspaper where the decedent resided an advertisement entitled "notice to debtors and creditors. " Credit card companies are required to file a claim with the executor within a statutory period. Failure to files such a claim by the credit card co will prevent them from collecting.

The amount owed will be paid by the estate after an executor of the estate is determined. All property remaining after the debt is paid will be distributed to heirs.
