How is child support handled it the child is adopted but the father still owe arrears?

Child support arrears is handled in family court. Notify the county attorney's office, which will look up the records, see the arrears and file a motion to collect.

You will defiantely get your child support first before they consider his other bills. The bill collectors can wait but the child can not wait on material things like food and diapers.

If you still owe arrears, then those must be paid. As for current support, you will need to see a judge to make a determination.

The father will only owe child support up to the time the child was adopted. The arrears are still collectible by the state.

Once the child is adopted the other parents obligation of child support ceases. For past arrears you can take him to small claims court to attempt recovery the money.
