How does the Aldi grocery store sell stuff so cheap?

Aldi is able to sell products as cheap as they are because they only stocks the basic necessities with few choices rather than top name brand foods and specialty items. You pay $.25 to get a cart and bag your own groceries. There is also no stock person, the shelves are made up of items still in shipping boxes.

Aldi limits items it stocks to about 1000, while most stores have 5-20,000. This means: 1. lower cost of managing inventory 2. less space needed to sell it, lowering rent
