A light bulb is a device for the conversion of electrical energy into visible energy. When current passes through it, it goes through a series of connectors setup to deliver the current to a carbon based filament, which has a high resistance and heats the filament. Soon the filament is hot enough to glow.

A light bulb works by running an electrical current through a filament. The filament is design to cause resistance. This in turn generates a lot of heat. This heat also generation radiation in the form of light.
