How do you word invitations that are separate for the ceremony and reception?

On the invitation, at the bottom, smaller print: Reception to follow/at(time)at(location). For reception only: join us for a reception to celebrate the marriage of X+Y.

The reception only invitations should be worded similar to: You are codially invited to a reception celebrating the marriage of name and name.

This is not uncommon at all. All you have to do is make an invitation that says please join us in the celebration of our wedding at (place) on (date) at (time).

You need to create two separate invitations. This will eliminate confusion for the attendess because they will not have to "guess" which part of the event they are invited to. The invitation should reflect that you have wed and that they're attending the reception. It should say something like "Following our beautiful nuptials please join us for our reception...."
