First go to the control panel then click add or remove program -then click add or remove windows component found in the left side of the panel- then scroll down to locate the windows media player- then uncheck it and click next and the finish button appears. Now try it.

You don't uninstall it the same way you would uninstall other programs because it is bundled with windows. You have to go to control panel, uninstall or remove programs and it will say "turn windows features on or off". In there, you will see windows media player.
