A viral infection can not be cured with antibiotics, it must run it's course. However, gargling salt water and using throat spray may help with the discomfort. The infection should go away in anywhere from five to seven days. In addition, drinking hot fluids may also temporarily provide relief but a viral infection can not simply be treated.

These types of infections are difficult to treat since antibiotics are ineffective for a viral infection. Most doctors will recommend allowing the body's own natural immunities to fight the infection. On the other hand there are natural remedies that may alleviate symptoms and help the body build up natural immunities to fight the infection. Large doses of vitamine C helps.

Your best treatment options are to drink plenty of fluids either warm or cold which ever helps hurts the least. Take ibuprofen to help reduce the swelling and help with pain relief and rest. You can also use throat numbing sprays or cough drops.
