How do you snake out an eight foot deep main drain in a swimming pool?

If you have a plumbing snake the easiest thing to do would be to try that first, you may need to hold your breath.

For an empty pool snake the drain as you would any drain of similar size. If the pool is filled, you will need a J-tube, a metal tube that will extend from the side of the pool to the drain providing a sleeve through which the snake can be pushed.

Insert the coiled tip in the drain. tighten down the thumbscrew that holds the cable in place, grasp the handle firmly, and crank the cable, or snake around.

You hook up a jtube and you take a plumbing snake and slide it through the sleeve and into the drain.

You open the drain and use a very thin snake. Move it up and down until you feel the clog breaks loose.
