Hold the ball in your weak hand with your palm to the sky about shoulder level and keep your dominant hand free. Toss the ball up about 10 inches over your head, and when the ball reaches its peak, swing the dominant hand overhand and hit the ball.

For a right handed person, toss the ball slightly over your head with your left hand and when the ball starts to come down, strike it with your right hand.

The dominent leg should be slightly forward, knees bent. Place the volleyball in the non-dominent hand. Put your dominent hand above your head. While tossing the ball, step forward with your dominent leg move forward your dominent hand, make contact with the ball.

Learn to throw the ball with a slight forward spin (so that it will roll away from you on the ground) and making solid contact speeding up the spin.

It's actually the exact same motion as a tennis serve (if you play tennis). Simply throw the ball up in the air in front of you (about 1-2 feet). Then throw your arm back, and follow through hitting the ball over the net, using as much power going downwards as you can.

It's much a like a tennis serve minus the racquet - throw the ball about five to eight inches in the air, and with a downward force, spike it.

Go to your local volleyball court and practice your overhand serve by serving with your hand wide open and smacking he ball with great force.

Much like you would in tennis (minus the racket! ). Throw the ball up in the air, and then "punch" it over the net.
