To secure a free standing canopy or patio cover, guy lines are attached at each corner and staked to the ground. If no tie-down supplies are included with the canopy you can use paracord or rope. To further stabilize the frame, some people attach cement blocks or sandbags tied to the legs of the canopy to prevent it from blowing away.

Usually these canopies come with metal or heavy plastic stakes with which to anchor the canopy. There are loops of fabric or rope on the bottom of the canopy sides/legs and the stakes fit through these loops to secure the canopy.

You could put the canopy legs into the ground, then secure the leg with several spikes in the ground about a foot away with ropes attaching the spikes to the legs.

With stakes and rope. If the canopy did not include any, then you can purchase them on your own. Drive stakes in to the ground, and throw a rope over the canopy and secure the rope to the stakes.

You secure outdoor canopies so they do not get blown away in the wind with proper ropes and stakes. Ropes and stakes will anchor the canopy so as to prevent them from blowing away.
