How do you replace the belt tensioner in a Dodge Neon?

In addition do I need to replace more than the tensioner, should I also replace the back timing belt as well?

Well to remove the tensioner all you should have to do is remove the bolts thatare holding it on. Just be careful because there is some tension on it because of the spring. As for the timing belt you should consult the manual. It should have the mileage listed at which the timing chain should be serviced.

Remove the battery negative cable and timing belt. Disconnect the bolts mounting the tensioner and remove it. Now insert the new tensioner. No need to replace back timing belt.

Remove the components in the way of direct access. Take the tensioner off by use of a socket. If no center bolt remove the attached bracket.

The belt tensioner is hard to replace, yes you may need to also replace the belt. If the timing belt is frayed then change it. If it looks ok you won't have to change it. It will show you how to replace it in the instructions.
