You only have to do this after the lily has bloomed, although late fall or early spring is not the correct time. Trim dead bloom off and any dead leaves and stems. Shape plant, trimming stems that are too long. Cut faded blooms off to encourage next season's new buds.

Once the lily starts blooming you can prune. Remove the unwanted leaves, bulbs should be taken out and kept with damp condition for two or three months and then plant it and provide enough of good fertilizer with equal composition which helps the calla lilies to start growing and buding.
