Just empty the room completely. You don't want that nasty dust getting in your bed mattress. Covering your furniture won't do. Protect the floor and clean the walls before painting.
Start by cleaning the walls and removing furniture. Then either remove or mask over everything you don't want painted. Next lay down a drop cloth and apply your primer coat. Follow this with the final color.
