Scrape off any loose paint, spot prime the bare spots with an all-purpose latex primer, and then paint the whole door with 1-2 coats of exterior latex paint.

The first step would be to take a piece of the siding to your local paint or home improvement store and have them color-match a paint. You would also want to use a good primer and a roller to completed the job.

A wooden garage door should be completely sanded to remove old paint and smooth the surface. Then prime and finish with two coats of outdoor house paint.

Sand the door smooth and pick a oil base paint for the door. They get alot of wear and you want the paint to stay looking good.

Mask off any areas you do not want painted with painters tape, and dust off the door with a rag. Use a primer if not already primed. Once the primer is dry use exterior paint to paint the door with a paint roller, use an up and down motion.

Make sure there is no loose paint or wood on the door. Sand the door with sandpaper and apply a exterior wood primer on the door. Let dry and the apply the base color to the door. Make sure it is a good brand of paint and that it is designed for exterior surfaces.

If the door still has its wooden look and you want to keep it that way use a varnish or a transparent (yacht)lacquer. Depending on the kind of wood –hard or soft– you could paint it in a color as well. In that case, a semi-gloss paint always works best on exterior woodwork.
