How do you mute the sounds in Windows XP?

At the right side of the Windows XP Task bar is a picture of a speaker. It is circular and gray. If you place the mouse cursor over this picture and then do a single click of the left mouse button a small volume window will appear. At the bottom is a check box for selecting Mute.

Press "Start" Button in the Left Side of Task Bar, Click "Control Panel", Open "Sounds and Audio Devices", Check mark "Mute" Button and press OK Button.
