Simple white icing can be made with shortening, confectioners' sugar, vanilla, and water. Start with 1/2 c. shortening, 2 c. powdered sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, and 1 T. water. Beat together with an electric mixer until it is light and fluffy. Add more water or sugar to attain desired consistency. For buttercream icing, use unsalted butter in place of shortening.

It depends on what type of frosting you want, some white frosting is made with powdered sugar and egg whites which you beat to peaks before adding the sugar.

I take a jar of marshmallow and add cream cheese to it. This makes a great frosting that can be used with cakes, cookies and some brownies. TO use on browning I put a little cocoa in it to make it chocolate. There's enough sugar in the marshmallow to make the frosting sweet.

You will need 3 cups confectioner sugar, vanilla, and a enough milk to make it the consistency you want. Beat with electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
