The simplest method is to make a grid of plastic pipe buried at least six feet under the soil where temperatures are constant. Connect this grid internally to a pump or fan arrangement. In winter this provides heat to the home and in summer reversing the flow takes excess heat out to the ground unit.

A geothermal exchange unit can be made simply by using some pvc pie. Most people suggest using about a 6" pipe for better cooling. Just make a set of pipes connect by a u-bend. Then bury this about 6 feet under ground. Then connect your ducting along with a fan capable of pulling the amount of air needed.

the most common current way of capturing the energy from geothermal sources is to tap into naturally occurring "hydrothermal convection" systems where cooler water seeps into Earth's crust, is heated up, and then rises to the surface. When heated water is forced to the surface, it is a relatively simple matter to capture that steam
