How do you learn to paint edges of something?

I have no problem painting larger parts of my home but can not paint the edges.

A steady hand, slowly sweeping the edge of the brush, lengthwise against the edge of the surface is one method. I prefer to use painter's tape for a clean line. Evenly place the tape along the desired edge and as you become more proficient you may omit the tape.

Edges can either be taped off using painter's tape or can be "cut". Cutting is a method used by painters where the brush is loaded with paint and is placed near the edge and drug across it by hand. A controlled even pressure and motion is required and practice is required.

There are two important things in being able to paint edges. First you need a good quality brush. Secondly, it just takes practice. Like most things, experience is key.

Honestly, it takes practice to free hand it but brush size often is the most common culprit to these problems. Make a brush selection based on what you are painting.
