How do you know when it is time to put your dog to sleep?

My dog is of advanced age and I am thinking it is time to let her go.

Unfortunately, we knew it was time to put our dog to sleep when he could no longer walk due to arthritis of the hips, he was loosing his fur, loosing his teeth, was blind, loss of bladder control, and loss of appetite. His quality of life had diminished, as well as, activities of daily living. It was a difficult decision.

A veterinarian can recommend when it will be best to put your dog to sleep. However, it is best to put the dog to sleep if the dog is in extreme pain or may be suffering and cannot be relieved of this condition or when death is certainly imminent.

When I had to let my little kitty Minuet go I knew it was time because she was constantly in pain and she didn't have what I call quality of life. No one can know more about your dog than you do. You will make the right decision.

During healthy days, it has served you faithfully but when it is aged, it is not of any use. But simply pushing it out and closing the gate is pity.
