I would recommend you do a standard three tab shingle. Don't forget to bend them at the hip (start at the bottom for this) and nail them. You can progress either up the hill or along the ridge. Pretty back breaking work!

For starters, you need to cut the shingles at the right position - an inch away from the middle of the hip or ridge should be fine. Then make the necessary cuts from the center to the top edge - you'll need a little calculation for this.

Someone told me that you should also take wind direction into consideration - dunno why, but it made sense! He said something about laying the caps according to wind direction. Hope that helps.  add a comment

You strip off all the old shingles and starting at the peak install the new shingles in a overlapping pattern working your way down.

The first thing you need to do is shingling up to the transition splitting the difference and keep on going. Put nails on the upper slope and exposed portion of the shingle on the lower steeper slope. After a weeks time the shingle will lay down on its own and the shingling gambrel roof is installed.

You start the shingling of the gambrel roof from the ends not the middle. you lay out your shingles and nail them all along the edge in a straight horizontal line. You then work up wards staggering the seams to make the roof water tight.

You will need to install the shingles on a Gambrel roof in the same manner as you would a regular roof. You may need to prepare the roof a little differently. It is best to consult with the manufacturer of your shingles. They should be able to give you the advice you need.
