How do you halter-break an older foal?

Calmly and quietly. Start in small doses. Introduce the halter carefully and slowly, much like you would with a younger foal. Using an approach and retreat action works best. Take advantage of the foals natural curiosity. Keep things calm- don't use force. Keep sessions short. Allow foal to sniff and chew the halter. Use hands to touch face extensively.

Keep putting the halter on and taking it off, repeat, again and again. Then hitch the horse in a safe place with the halter on. Do this repeatedly. Finally, come up to him or her in the field and practice putting the halter on and taking it off. Be patient.
