How do you go about transplanting roses?

I have to move some of my rose bushes because we're putting in a new patio and walkway.

In early spring, cut the plant back to the ground, dig up and move. If it's not early spring, cut back half of the plant before you dig and move.

To ensure that you disturb as little of the roots as possible, dig a hole around the rose twice the diameter of the bush. Don't plant the crown too deeply.

Before planning for a transplantation you should water the plant well for several days. Dig up the plant with as many roots as possible and immediately re-plant it.
