How do you go about fixing the sewing machine tension?

Can I fix it myself?

Depending on the model of the machine it may have a knob or screw near the head. Tension can be adjusted by turning this control. Special tools may be required such as a hexagonal key. Exercise caution while adjusting as too tight may lead to cloth snagging and tearing when passing through.

YOu can carefully take the machine apart and grease it n any dry areas. You should really take it to a repair shop so you dont break any parts on your machine.

This is a easy fix if you have patience. Make sure the bobbin thread and the sewing thread are the same. Get a piece of old cloth and move the tension until you see the underside of the cloth sewing correctly. Each weight of cloth will require the correct needle and the correct thread.

if you were to fix it yourself, you must get yourself a professional, you dont want to risk breaking any of the functioning stuff. 1 thing breaks and its broken.

Most modern sewing machines have a tensioner knob which allow you to control the tension of the machine's thread. Either experiment with the knob or find and consult with the manual for your machine in order to find the appropriate setting for the fabric you are sewing.

Look at the picture in your instruction book to locate the tension knob. Adjust the tension tighter or looser by turning the knob. Sew a few stitches to check.
