This is done by contacting the source you want removed and having them contact the proper credit bureau. If you feel the information from the source is incorrect then you may contact the credit bureau in writiing requesting the information be investigated. If the information is incorrect then the credit bureau must remove that information by law.

When you request your credit report information is included on how to dispute something listed on the credit report. In order to have something removed the information must be inaccurate. When you report it to the agency they send a letter to the person or company who made the claim and allow them to respond.

If it is paid, either settled or in full, then ask them to remove it and usually, they will. If it's still unpaid, it will fall off after 7 years.

If it was a mistake and they're not supposed to be on there you can file a report with the credit bureaus and they will take the person off.

Generally, removal of a creditor on your credit report requires payment of your debt to that party. The creditor is then required to report the debt paid in full to the credit report agencies that produce the report. Keeping documentation of your final payment helps convince the credit reporting agencies to change their records if the creditor has not.

Assuming that the individual is a former spouse, you need only provide a copy of your divorce decree and the property settlement. This will tell the agencies who is court ordered responsible for what debts. In the event the individual is not a former spouse, you will need to go to court and get a judgement. Good Luck.
