You can get a green card through marriage, a family member or through employment. The process is a bit different for each method, all require an lengthy application, and may require an immigration attorney. You will need US INS Form I-140 (Labor Certification + $115) or I-485 (fee + application). You must be a permanent resident, which is another process.

It depends on why you are applying for one. You need to have a family member petition for you, apply based on an employment offer or apply for asylum or refuge status. The forms are available through the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

If you need citizenship simply marry an American for a handful of years and then decide if you really want to stay.

You need to contact the INS (immigration and naturalization services). Many lawyers specialize in this. Green cards are granted for those who have gainful employment in the US or unique skills. So having an advanced degree would help. So would having contacts with an American employer who is willing to hire you and will say so.

First you have to apply for entry into the country and be accepted. Assuming you are approved for entry by immigration you will come to a port of entry. Once that happens they will question you and determine on what answers you get you may be eligible for a green card. It expires after so many years.

If you're in another country like Canada, you go to their immigration offices and fill out the necessary forms. There will be a fee and possibly a background check.

I believe you have to pass a test, and pay some fees. I would check with your local DMV or imigration office for details.

One way is to marry an American citizen, although there is a vetting process and you may have to wait before your green card is granted. You can enter a green card lottery in some countries. Lawful permanent residents may apply for green cards after five years of residency in the United States.
