A full split can be done either with one leg forward and the other back or with both legs directly out to the side. It is important to ease into the splits by routine stretching; don't try going all the way to the floor on your first attempt.

You have to take the time to really learn to stretch out those muscles--no one should ever try to just jump into it without stretching first, and even so it might take you months of working towards it a little at a time before you can do it, it just takes time.

Sit on the floor, put one leg in front of you, the other one behind (toe pointed) using your arms roll yourself so your pelvis is parallel to the floor

Doing a full split takes time. You must train your muscles. Start by doing a front split. Go down as far as you can, breath, and sink into it farther.

A full front split means sitting down with one leg extended in front of you and the other behind you. A side split means sitting down with your legs out to the side making a 180 degree angle. Either split needs to be worked up to with other stretches or by getting as close as you can without pain.

Doing a full split requires a lot of stretching. Each day, for a specified period, you should stretch and practice doing and each day you will get closer.
