A good way to do this is to find out exactly what color your hardwood floors are. After you have a good idea then you can go and pick up tile that matches. Maybe you can even take home a few small samples of tile to compare with your wood floor, if they will let you.

The color and texture of both hardwood and tile should be considered. Get a few sample pieces of tile, even if you have to buy these, and match up against your hardwood to see which color, texture and style you prefer. There are no set rules, since there are so many choices in hardwoods and tiles.

Matching the tiles to hardwood is purly a matter of taste. I believe that contrast is good here. After all, the two surfaces are extremely different in most every way.

To match your kitchen tiles you should select the colour and design which suits your hardwood floors. Mostly you can go in for contrast or the same colour.
