A young rabbit's age can best be determined by the lenth of its hind legs and ears. This method only works until about 3 months of age. It is impossible to accurately determine a rabbit's age. Only a post mortum reveals the age by weighing the eye lense.

Cottontail rabbits are a little difficult to determine age. Some key factors to look at are at age 5-7 days babies will open there eyes. At 14 days old baby cottontails will begin to move around and explore their surrounding. and at 16 days they are on their own.

Baby rabbits open their eyes at about 2 weeks of age and start to explore, learn to hop around. If when it hops, it has a little trouble and somewhat walks, it is around 2-3 weeks old. If it hops like a grownup, it is older.
