You can start the nitrogen cycle by adding live sand with bacteria and keep measurements on the nitrogen cycle. Once all the cycles have gone through your tank is cycled.

You introduce bacteria into the tank. This can be done by adding hardy fish, live sand, or by adding live rock. There is also a product you can get from your local pet shops that is bacteria in a bottle that you squeeze in and let it cycle for 72 hours.

To cycle a saltwater aquarium it is very important to remove the animal and plant life that are present in the aquarium before you begin removing the water. After the animal and plant life has been safely secured, you drain all the water into an environmentally safe reservoir. Then you add more saltwater.
