If your dog is terrified of being crate trained, very simply do not crate train. This will only cause anxiety for your beloved pet. Make your dog feel god about his/her crate by placing his/her favorite toys and blanket in the crate for a more comfortable environment. Try another form of training such as designated areas and secure with baby gates.

Crate your dog for a few minutes and let him out, now he knows he won't be in there forever. Reward him with praise and a treat. Lengthen the duration a little at a time. If you leave him for a longer duration, give him an old (worn)shirt, and a toy. Try leaving the radio tuned in to classical music.

You need to get professional training and allow the dog to use the crate as a safe place. The crate should never be a means of punishment, but a calm and special place for your dog. Proper training trains you and the dog both! It's amazing what you both learn along the way

One thing you can try is to leave the create open. Put a nice warm blanket, dogs toys, etc into the create. Maybe eventually he will start going into the create when he is comfortable. Though, if your dog had issues with a previous owner, you might not ever get him into a create. Don't force the dog in.

First, put a blanket/article of clothing that you use into the crate, this will give it your scent. If the dog has a favorite toy, put that into the crate. Leave the door open and give the dog time to wander into it on his or her own. Let them do this several times before shutting the door on them.

He probably associates something negative with being in a crate. The only thing you can do for him is to make the crate as comfortable as possible. Put a blanket or towel in the bottom and give him his favorite toys. Time should straighten up the problem he's having with his crate.
