How do you change a 4-prong plug on a dryer to fit a 3-prong outlet?

The best way to do this is to call the home owner and have the older three prong outlet changed. Driers take quite a bit of power and just like anything else outlets wear out and sometimes over time become worn and singed. Because of the dry air and lint having an older outlet in the laundry room is lesswise.

The 4 prong dryer means that it requires a 220 volt plug, and not a 120 volt plug. There's no way to add the additional voltage to that outlet. You will need to contact a electrician to add the plug that you need. This may require additional wiring if you have an older house.

The most recommended way to do this will be to ask a local professional and have them direct you to the right path.
