If you are referring to the plug on a clothes dryer this work should only be done by a qualified electrician. Standard three prong cords operate at 110 volts. Four prong cords operate at 220 volts.

For a job like that you need to contact the professionals dryers cause a great many deadly housefires every year and when a dryer is made to run one way and you start changing the wiring makeup you change the way it runs and you I am sure do not want it to overheat and burn your house down.

If the wire pulled to the dryer has 3 conductors you have to pull a new wire. If there are 4 wires, just replace it with a 4 wire plug.

There are conversion kits available at most hardware and building supply stores. You may install it according to the instructions, or find someone more qualified to do it.

Well if you want to change it to 3 wires to 4 wires, you have to change the whole internal system. It is very difficult and not feasible to do so. Because the wire was only made for three, there is no real support to turn it into 4 wired dryer.
