How do wireless routers work?

I'm getting a lot of interference, I think.

Well they are a wireless broadcaster that converts a analog signal into a radio frequency. It is possible to have interference from other devices in that broadcasting range. Something like a microwave or cordless phone may cause issues. It may be getting interference from the outlet also. Try moving the router elsewhere and see if that helps.

Wireless routers typically act like a normal router. The difference being is the medium that they send across, air in this case, the only real hinderance would be whether the antena is properly connected or there is a large metal or water obstacle near the destination.
