The air from the lungs cause the vocal cords to vibrate. This vibration causes sound waves. As the sound wave travels through the pharynx, it is enhanced. It sounds like a voice as it leaves your mouth.

Vocal Chord or the now called Vocal fold is involved in sound production. The lungs blow air that pushes through the small space between the vocal cords that makes its covering to vibrate and produce sound waves in the pharynx, nose and mouth. Loudness depends on air pressure from the lungs.

When you take air into your lungs it passes through your vocal chords. This causes the chords to vibrate and make vibrations that take on sound, this sound is turned into the words we hear due to complex nature of the 'strumming' of your vocal chords.

Vocal cords run from the brain, past the throat, and down to the lungs. When your brain sends a signal, your throat releases saliva to lubricate your vocal cords, at which point your lungs produce air so you can talk, yell, or scream.

Vocal chords are contained within the larynx and emit a sound because of the vibration that occurs as air is expelled from the larynx.

Vocal Chords work like any string instrument. Picture your vocal chords as a harp, and air being the hands playing them. The tone will change due to the intensity of air flow, and the vibrations of the chords themselves. The air will pass through them and cause them to vibrate, creating tone.
