How do I troubleshoot a driver's seat belt that won't retract?

I have a Ford F-150

There is no troubleshooting to do. If the seat belt will not retract the assembly will have to be replaced. Beside the seat there should be a panel that the seat belt assembly is behind. After rermoving this panel, unbolt the retractor and the top pivot part. To install do the reverse.

Park your truck on flat, level ground. Gently feed the seat belt into the opening. If this doesn't work, clean the seat belt mechanism with some cleaner.

Have you tried pulling it all the way out to make sure it's all straight? i had the same problem with the passenger side. Some of the plastic gears in the retractor assembly were broken. I had to replace the entire seat belt. I bought an OEM belt for at a Ford dealer and i replace it.

If your seat belt does not seem to react very often then you will need to make sure your wires are correct.
